How to Create a New Photoshop Document

New to the world of Photoshop? Don't worry, although it's a very advanced program, learning how to work with it is not exactly rocket science. Adobe Photoshop is a layered graphic editing program, which means that you can do just about anything related to images.
If you want to create a new Photoshop document, follow these simple steps:
First of all, if you look on the right of the screen you will see the default bar. To create a new document, you can either click File→New or simply press Ctrl+N. Either of these actions will open a dialogue box. In this box, you can define the image and resolution you want for the image.

Then, all the way to the right, you'll have the layer bar and the toolbar, as well as your workspace. After you've defined the dimensions and resolution of your image, a blank box will appear in your workspace. In the toolbar, you will find all the tools available to manipulate your image. Every new piece of information that you add to your image will create a new layer. The layer box will show you what layer you're working in, as well as the relationship between layers.
When you start working on an image, you will have only one layer to begin with. This initial layer will appear labeled Background, and will have a lock icon. Every Photoshop image starts this way. As you work on your image and add items, new layers will be added automatically.
Take the time to play a little with the program, and see what each tool can do to your image. It's fun, and it's a good way to discover all sorts of functions and features. Although Photoshop may seem very confusing at first, if you're patient and interested it's not so hard to operate, and once you learn how to use it you can create some really awesome images.
